Lisbon is the capital of Portugal, and the westernmost city of Europe. Situated on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, water is one of the defining elements of the city’s identity. As one of the oldest cities in the world, Lisbon has enchanted travellers over the centuries with its white limestone buildings, its alleyways, its rich historical heritage, and a quiet charm that makes it a popular destination all year round.

But, Lisbon is also an important political and cultural centre, as well as one of the largest economic centres on the European continent. The city was voted the best city break destination in the world in the 2019 WTA awards. It was also ranked as the coolest city in Europe, by CNN, and the third most hospitable in the world, by Trypadvisor.

The PROF XXI Global Symposium MOOC Lx 23 takes place at the Orient Museum Meeting Centre (Avenida Brasília, Doca de Alcântara (Norte), 1350-352 Lisbon, Portugal – see Google maps).

The Orient Museum, opened in 2008, is installed in a port building located in Alcântara, near Belém, whose recovery carried out by the Orient Foundation transformed it in a space of excellence in the Portuguese cultural context. It exhibits important testimonies of the Portuguese presence in the Orient, as well as the richness of traditional Asian arts and the contemporary artistic production of Asian countries. With a magnificent view over the Tagus River, the Meeting Centre of the Orient Museum is a privileged space for meetings, congresses, seminars, meetings and other scientific, cultural and other events. The participants in MOOC Lx23 have the possibility to enrich their participation with a visit to the Orient Museum.
